Oh, dear. The second donor, I was the
first, had to drop out because of medical reasons as I did. There is no other donor currently insight.
The hemodialysis sessions have been a
misery. From departure to return can be
six hours, and that's three nights a week. Also, Mike's fistula, where the needles are
inserted for the dialysis, hasn't been working well. His arm is often swollen afterward for days.
We will be trying different things as a result.
He will get another surgery to create a
port, which allows for easier entry for the hemodialysis. He will also be set
up for home dialysis. The process is
called peritoneal dialysis. It works by a different process than hemodialysis. He will be doing it at night and have his day
free. Damon has done considerable
research on the PD option. It sounds pretty good. It is much gentler than
hemodialysis.
Thank you to all of you for your concern
for Mike. I am optimistic that there is
a solution that will allow him to live a full life.
