I woke up early even though I hadn't set the alarm. My body is used to this schedule. As per a relatives' instructions, I donned my Happy Birthday tiara to officially make this my birthday month and set out for my morning walk. I ran into four people this morning and talked to two at some length. No one noticed that I had this thing perched on my head- very interesting.
One woman came out to pick up her newspaper. Elsa did what she always does, put her front paws on their legs, and begged for attention. As she pleads with the person, my usual line is, "Please, please, take me home. You have no idea how horrid she is to me." I say it as a joke, but I am a little freaked out by her behavior with total strangers. Today was even more far out. Elsa wrapped her front legs around this woman's legs and wouldn't let go.
It mainly was a low-key day. I meditated, napped, worked on getting out back updates, and looked for more books in the library.
I've grabbed three alphabetized sheets at a time and searched through six bays at a time. So far, so good; I found one or two books for every three alphabetized lists. I will have enough to send two boxes out tomorrow. Finding only a few books wasn't as satisfying as finding twenty or thirty per bay, but it was something. I packed up two boxes to be shipped out tomorrow.
An old friend from New Jersey called to wish me a happy birthday. Kathrine and I were on the phone for an hour every night back in the bad old days. Kathrine has written a book I love. I can't recommend it enough. It's The Phoenix and the Falcon available on Amazon. I read it twice and enjoyed it both times.
Judy stopped by to drop off the apple pie she made for my birthday. She left me half and took the other half home. There was no way I could eat the whole thing before it went bad. I gave her the dishes she had used to pack up food after Thanksgiving and a cake someone gave me that I wasn't going to eat. Tomorrow is Judy's grandson's birthday. Adam and Jazzy, his parents, will throw a party. They can use that cake with its strawberries and whip cream.
I had only completed 4,000 steps on the morning walk. I made up some of the steps during the day, walking up and down the hall. I planned to do a long before-dinner walk, and then it rained. Elsa doesn't like to get wet; she doesn't even want to get her feet wet. I had to do most of my walking up and down the hallway.
