I went for my morning walk early this morning and missed Dean and Nina. Dean dropped off a dozen eggs for Darby, saying they were particularly beautiful. I delivered them later, telling her what Dean said about them.
I spent some of the day in the yard, trimming the shrubs along the driveway. To cut the tops, I climbed on a three-step stool. Since the driveway is on a slope, it can be tricky. I have to place the step stool so the shrubs support both of us. If it or I tilt over, the shrub will catch us.
I got to work with the Twins today. Twin A read on a low third-grade level. Her fluency improved, and she did a good job articulating the main idea in the passage. When I asked her a detailed question, she looked up in the air rather than reread the passage. That drives me nuts. Why do the kids do that? Is it because they have a history of poor reading and figure they’ll never find the information that way? Do they think they’re supposed to know the answer?.
I meet with many of my students on Zoom. Twin A drives me nuts. She wanders around the house. Even though she is improving, she hates working with me. I don’t take it personally. She hates working on reading. I can appreciate her feelings. When I feel I can’t do an adequate job, it is painful to try, too.
