I got into bed early last night to comfortably cuddle with Elsa. When I had her on my lap as I sat, her weight caused leg pain. While I planned to stay up, I fell asleep quickly. I woke up around 4 am after going to bed at 8:30 pm. Good God! What a lovely New Year’s gift. I haven’t slept like that since I was in my twenties. I got up and did my morning exercise and morning walk. As I headed out of the driveway, I saw Dean and Nina. Dean reported the fireworks were the ‘worst’ they’d ever seen, which meant they were spectacular. That was affirmed by Judy, Paulette, and Darby, whose husband woke her at midnight to take in the view. I have no regrets about missing it. I would have worried about the possibility of fire. We hadn’t had rain for days. The place was a tinder box.
Wherever I lived on the mainland, professionals orchestrated sizeable aerial firework displays. We have a few like that here, but the majority are from our neighbors. Yep, every Tom, Dick, and Harry has his own display going. They are supposed to be illegal here. They pose a considerable fire hazard. Most of Hawaii is covered with plants. Outdoor living is the norm.
Three people were killed and 25 injured in one incident on Oahu. One of the rockets turned downward and hit a pile of unexploded fireworks. While there was property damage, there was no fire.
I planned to get things done. I bathed Elsa and washed my bathroom floor, watered the 42 shrubs, picked up some green waste, delivered it to Darby, and picked up the empty barrels from her house, but other than that, I spent the day listening to an audiobook.
