I mowed the lawn today. It takes about half an hour. I can’t do the edges because the chickens have dug holes where the lawnmower gets stuck and shuts off. Because it’s an electric mower, it easily starts up again. This machine is a treat to work with. In the end, the mower was covered with dusty soil. I thought it could be safe to hose it down rather than dust it off. As long as I removed the battery and gave the machine enough time to dry before I used it again, all would be well.
Dan came over to give me an estimate for trimming my trees. We do it here to preserve our views. Dan was upset. Two of his dogs had killed his favorite cat. They had all been together for three years. They played together and slept together. Then, two of his dogs, siblings, ripped that poor cat apart. Dan was beside himself. The cat was his favorite. Dan takes in rescue animals from the humane society; they have his number of speed dial. He didn’t know what to do about those dogs. He would have to get rid of them before he killed his other cats. He wanted to beat them for what they had done. He said his dad used to beat the animals. My guess is he beat Dan, too. I knew if he did beat them, he would see his dad in himself; it would not be good for him.
Dean and Nina came over to continue with our Saturday Sorry game. I won handily today. I was the only one who ate ice cream. Usually, it’s Nina who eats it and wins. There is a correlation between eating ice cream and winning. I always enjoy their company.
I napped a lot, resisting doing anything uncertain, like writing or trimming large branches off the shrubs. I got some writing down. At the end of the day, I forced myself to go out and cut off large branches of several shrubs with a chainsaw.
Darby came over to walk. I had to wait until sunset to go out because I needed to light the yahrzeit candle for Mike at sunset. Tomorrow would be Mike’s 84th birthday. I miss him more with every passing year.
