Today was a Dean and Nina day.  They went to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Waimea in the morning. Nina wanted to go and insisted Dean join her.  He did not enjoy himself. Not only was it not his thing, the blossoms weren’t in full bloom. The festival organizers had moved the date up, adjusting for climate change. Then, it wasn’t warm enough.

Dean won today.  While we play Sorry, he watches that we make advantageous moves and then complains about our good luck and his bad luck.  It is true, Nina and I win more often than he does, but sorry is an almost skill free game.

Dean spoke about his family of origin.  He is the youngest of six kids.  He’s not in touch with most of them. The first born is dead already and has been for a while.  He spoke about one brother who is living with a transsexual.  It wound up that brother was born with water on his brain which caused damage. Children born with that condition today can be helped, but not back then.

I think that brother worked in the same place as his current roommate. They were both bullied.  It was the transexual who recommended they live together. I think it’s delightful. They watch out for each other.  They are each other’s number one. Dean didn’t know if they were physically intimate. To answer that question, he called his older sister Karen, the only sibling he’s regularly in contact with.

He asked the question about his disabled brother.  I got to talk to Karen. She seems like a delightful woman, even though she thinks Elvis is the hottest man who ever lived on the planet. She forgave me for not finding him so.  No, I don’t think he’s gorgeous. No, I never thought he was sexy.  This was beyond Karen’s comprehension. She sent a picture showing Elvis in his prime.  He has that brooding quality, Heathcliff of Tennessee.  Heathcliff lost his appeal for me by the time I was thirty. The wounded animal look. All I felt for Elvis was pity.

While Karen and I were on the phone, Darby arrived to pick up the eggs Dean and Nina brought for her and drop off the edibles for them from her yard.  Dean and Nina went to greet her. Karen  it sounded like a lot was going on. I assured her it had nothing to do with me.  Darby came over to get the eggs Dean had brought over for her and dropped off her edibles to them.  I will exchange eggs for MakesNoClaims. I think I get the better end of the deal. MNCs has done wonders for Nina’s skin condition.
