It was my first day standing again using the walker for balance. It went well. I was able to apply many of the changes I had made while on the floor to the standing position.
After yoga, I went to Petco to buy this comb I saw at Judy’s, which is much better for getting the tangles out of Elsa’s hair than the brush we purchased. This new comb was a mere twenty-two dollars. No wonder it’s good. As I was wandering the aisles looking for the comb, I came across a wholesale package of greenies. Elsa goes through two a day. This seems like a good buy.
I went to Home Depot afterward to buy the tools I need to take up the laminate floor. Scott gave me a lesson on how to go about it. First, I have to take off the moldings. I have to take a razor and slide it between the wall and the molding to sever the paint. Then I need to pull the moldings off. He told me to look for the points where the nails are and work there. I had to buy a super small crowbar to do it, which can fit between the wall and the molding. I also bought a steel metal scraper, which is usually used to smooth spackle to place between the wall and the crowbar so I don’t make dents in the drywall. Excellent. It sounds like fun - if: I can figure out how to do it and if my body can tolerate being on the floor. We’ll see. Also, I want to save the damaged laminate, which can’t be used as a floating floor anymore but can be glued down. I’m hoping I will find a taker on Craig’s List rather than having to add it to the landfill.
I spent most of the day going back and forth between reassembling my kitchen and reading. Slowly, slowly. I threw out more foodstuff as I went along. Let me see: do you think a biscuit mix with a date of 2013 is still good? We must have brought that with us from Ohio. All the cupboards were empty when the house was tented. I had visions of living with all these bare cupboards for the rest of my life. But then I thought, I can move all the stuff I buy in bulk into them. They will fill up in no time flat.
I went to visit Darby again on my evening walk with Elsa. If I haven’t told you already, I am visiting her nightly. She’s confined at home until she recovers more mobility after her stroke. She is a trouper; I enjoy her sense of humor, her personality in general. She’s as out there as I am. Or at least, that’s my take on her.
When I came home, I had dinner. I’ve been making eggs because I still haven’t reassembled the freezer to get food out of there. All the food is in protective bags – in the freezer. They’re too heavy to just lift out. I will have to empty them while they are still in the freezer.
While watching TV tonight, I groomed Elsa with the comb. Boy, that girl as a bunch of dreads. She really needs a better mom/human. When I stood up, OW! There was my back again. I had thought prolonged problems were over. I guess I’ll be down on the floor again for Bikram when I go in on Monday.
