I got up early because I had 11 a.m. office hours. Only one tutor showed up, diligently checking in as prescribed before they had contact with their students. She said she didn't anticipate any problems because she tutored in college. What did she tutor? Chemistry and biology. Oh, boy. I warned her she would be teaching something completely different. It would be like having to tutor French when you were good at tutoring Chemistry and Biology. I suggested she approach her tutoring with a beginner's mind. I do that after sixty years of teaching. I just confronted a situation with a student I had never seen before. We all need to approach new teaching situations with a beginner's mind.
I spent most of the day napping, but I did get around to trying to kill a haole koa with boiling water. This is experimental. Nothing kills haole koas trees, no chemical, no matter how toxic. You have to pull it out by the root, and they have deep roots. Good luck if you don't pull them out when they're one or two inches high. It will be revolutionary, an effective, non-toxic solution if this works. Right now, I only tried it on two-foot-high trees, mere saplings, but the roots of those trees have already sunk too deep to be pulled out by hand. Also, if even a trace of the root is left in the ground, it will send up another plant. These trees are resilient.
I came across this on the Internet and howled.
