I woke up in the middle of the night to some strange sound. Was someone's alarm going off? I tried to ignore it, but it persisted. I got up to locate it. Was it coming from my radio? I had tried to set it on sleep mode last night but had given up. Was this a result of that attempt? I pushed the off button on the radio. That didn't stop it. I pushed the on-button. The unmistakable sound of speaking voices came on. Okay, it wasn't my radio. I followed the sound. It was coming from my computer.

I had downloaded Pandora during the day, but it hadn't been playing when I went to sleep. The computer was sitting closed. Closing the laptop is usually enough to stop the streaming. Besides that, Pandora usually switches itself of, asking, "Are you still listening?" I had no idea what was going on. The easiest solution was to hit the mute button; I went back to bed.

In my phone call with Dorothy this morning, we spoke about a book I sent her on Judaism. It's part of the Very Short Introduction series that has been my bedtime reading. She knew I was sending it to her. She found the book on her doorstep last night before she went to bed. She was surprised because she thought I would have the book sent to me, and then I would ship it to her. Instead, I had Amazon send it to her directly.

Needless to say, she got very different things out of the book than I did. I will have to reread the sections we discussed to see it from her point of view. We both see the book as well-written and with a touch of funny. As a practicing Jew, Dorothy knew much more about the history of Judaism than I do. She still got some new information from the book.

I spent the day catching up on updates and walking, back to the updates and walking. As I sit here now, my ribs hurt.
