Something must be wrong with my pedometer.  It is registering fewer steps than I take, only ten when I counted a hundred.  I wondered if the pedometer wasn't working correctly because my stride was smoother or broken. It's relatively new. It's been sitting in a drawer for a while, but it was unused, like brand-new when I started using it.

As I headed back home, I passed my neighbor's farm stand.  I had ordered some produce from them.  As I approached, I heard the voice of a woman speaking to Elizabeth about her order as she stood on the runway of her truck.  The voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it until she came clearly into view.  Ah, Margo.  I met her first as a nursery owner.  I was told she was the go-to person if I wanted information about plants. She was the most knowledgeable person around. Then I met her again at Holy Rosary, where she goes to church every Sunday.  We chatted for a few minutes.

Elizabeth asked if I wanted my supplies now. I said I wanted to take Elsa home first.  When I went back out, there was no one at the pickup table, but Elizabeth came across the front yard, having caught sight of me was walking toward the gate.  She said Ronen was putting a bag of produce together for me. They included a loaf of sourdough bread that they are selling for friends. Now I would see what half a pound of lettuce looks like and figure out how long it will last me.  It really didn't look like much.  These are red leaf lettuce individual leaves. We'll see.

I was exhausted most of the day, dragging myself to get anything done.  I worked on the blog and finally worked on setting up my freestanding PCV towel rack.  It worked beautifully. I designed it so I can hang the towel without having to fold it.  Trapped moisture quickly turns to mold in this environment. The rack is three feet across and three feet high. It worked. My design worked.

What I didn't do today was vacuum the lanai. That's been on my to-do list every day for over a week.  Besides the regular vacuuming that any area would need, Elsa has left several messes.  I did the surface cleaning, but I have to wash those areas and suck up the water with my Rainbow vacuum cleaner and whatever is left from the Elsa gift.  Besides the fecal gifts, I notice discoloration on another section of the lanai.  I do believe Elsa hasn't been using the bathroom rug as much as I would like.

When we got home from the before-dinner walk, I fed Elsa and started washing the lettuce leaves for my dinner salad. Because we have rat lung disease threat here, everything grown on the island has to be thoroughly washed.  I dumped the lettuce in a pot, rinsed it, drained the water, and then did another rinse.  Then I had to pull out each leaf separately and check on any sign of a slug.  It is those animals that carry the disease.  I laid out the leaves on a clean dish towel.  Then I had to wait for them to dry.

I finally had dinner at around 8:30 pm. I only had the salad and one hunking slice of the sourdough bread loaded with butter and some cheese on the side.  I didn't eat the cheese on the bread because I didn't want to dilute the bread's taste. I had some other food I could have made, but these three items sufficed.

During dinner, I continued reading Brooks's The Social Animal.  I keep thinking I read this book before.  Maybe I did, or perhaps I came across elements of this story in another book of his. Either way, I am thoroughly enjoying reading it now.  I love the way this man writes. After dinner, instead of watching TV, I sat in the living room and continued reading.  My eyes are not as good as they used to be, and I have difficulty reading or writing for any length of time—the letters blur.

I slept well and was up before the alarm went off.  In June, it was light at 5:30, but now, it is not so much.  Being close to ...
