The alarm went off at 5:30 despite the phone’s promise to make adjustments for Labor Day. I was up when it went off. It was pitch black. I thought I was just up for another trip to the bathroom. I didn’t walk long today because both my legs hurt.  I’ve been raising my right hip and swinging my left leg, so it comes in front of the right. It’s like walking a tightrope or being a runway model.

I was expecting a call between 9 and 10 from the Microsoft customer support company. It was supposed to be David, who was the one I dealt with initially. Instead, I got Alex. Oh, oh.  He insisted that David had told me that the 400 dollars were for a package deal, the operating system, and the virus protection. Okay, now I know that someone is bullshitting me. I took notes on what he said. I was paying for the operating system, and the virus was being thrown in for free.

He tried to tell me that I had to pay for the three-year subscription for the Professional suite. By this time, I had my act together. He said he would start my new subscription in January.  I told him that I could find out from Damon and August exactly when he bought it. I don’t remember why he was traveling without me at that time, but he was.  I made it clear to Alex that there was no way he had bought that computer in January, leaving me home for the holidays. He said okay, he would give me a full year. I said, okay.

Then I started thinking, wait. If the operating package and the virus are lifetime purchases, Mike must have taken care of that when he bought the computer. I texted Damon and August to ask if they could remember the month or even just the season when Mike bought that tablet. I got a picture of August showing Mike how to operate the tablet- with the exact date of the photo. July 18, 2018. That means they would owe me up till then, not quite a full year. However, the question is, did Mike buy the operating system and the virus lifetime package.  I called August. Thinking he would know. He was busy with schoolwork. I told him I thought I was being conned.  I couldn’t explain the situation in texts, too complicated. I’ll deal with it tomorrow.

This company may be in deep shit, if they deal with my challenge by paying me off. Oh, boy. I still hate to buy everything from another source again, but I can’t walk away from this type of immorality. Maybe they’ve been robbing me all along.

The young woman who stayed here for six months texted me. She wanted to get together to see me before she had to return to Switzerland. Her visa ran out already; I think she got away with staying longer because of the limited travel due to the Covid virus restrictions. She proposed lunch.

I had things to do before we met.  I cleaned another section of the lanai screen. I thought I hadn’t done the bottom half of one. I sprayed it with water, and it came out clean.  The next section hadn’t been done, and mud rolled off the screen.  When the spray bottle was empty of water, it was time to go fill it with vinegar and do another section between the plumbagos and my neighbor’s fence.  It was hard work. It was mostly asparagus fern. They have these fierce little thorny things which prick like mad, and they’re hard to pull up. My back was killing me, but I was determined to finish that section.  It felt somewhat better after I had to pull hard to uproot some of the plants.

When I had finished the stretch, I went into the house to shower and get ready to meet with the young woman.  Damn, it was twelve-thirty already. I was planning to leave by 12:30. When I checked my phone, there was a text message asking if we could postpone the meeting. Great.  I took my shower and went down for a nap.

I finally got around to reviewing my notes for confronting Progressive. I have already checked two out of the twelve. So far, the explanations were just  ‘increase in business expenses.’  No apologies for not stating there is an increase or explaining it. It just is. Again, these folks think I’m just challenging. I am preparing these statements for the state oversight agency. If Progressive is playing games like this, they deserve everything the state can throw at them.

I spoke to my friend Jean M. in Arizona today.  We talked a little bit about the political situation and about family. It was just good to make contact.
