I slept well for most of the night but woke up around 2:30. The rest of the night was spent dozing and waking up to worry about the outcome of the surgery. I got up shortly before 6 am and took Elsa for a walk.
Damon and Cylin went to town to Kona Mountain Coffee and then to Kua Bay to grab some sunshine on the beach while the grabbing was good.
I had PT with Terry. I asked her why someone would say I would not be happy with the hip replacement. It sounded like I wouldn’t see a big difference in my mobility. My problems were more soft tissue than arthritic pain. She also said the new hip would have to be replaced in fifteen years anyway.
Damon and Cylin made plans to have lunch at the Four Seasons with Yvette and Josh to catch up. August asked to go along. Damon was reluctant to have him come because it would limit the conversation. Damon proposed he could eat at another table. Cylin offered to eat with him. No. Damon wanted Cylin present for the discussion.
When they came back, I joined them for a ride up Kaloko. We got to the top of the two-lane road. We hit a locked gate with a no-trespassing sign and a narrow paved road to the right. The cloud forest is within this property. This area is only accessible with a guided tour to protect the land and animals. There was a Private Property sign to the side of the narrow road. We argued if that sign applied to the land abutting the side of the road or the road. Damon and Cylin decided not to follow the narrow road either way. They took pictures at the spot we were on, and we headed back down the mountain to the harbor fishpond to visit the sea turtles.
When we visited that beach the other day, there were no turtles. They only come onto the beach during high tide. They can’t make it over the retaining wall built by the Hawaiians to trap fish during low tide.
We found several turtles on the beach now. Most were in the water. Their shells protrude above the waterline, looking like shiny rocks. You need to look carefully to find them. One was lying on the beach, looking pale and dry. Cylin thought he was dead at first and then saw him blink. As Damon and I watched, we saw him raise his head. An older woman said someone had stepped on him an hour ago. I never learned the circumstances. I called the Park Rangers. I only got a general voicemail for all the officers. Hopefully, they will check on him and get him the help he needs.
When we got home, Damon ordered Thai food from Kua. The Original Thai restaurant wasn’t open. Covid has taken its toll. Yvette picked up the food on her way home from work. When she delivered it, she was too tired to join us. The food was good, particularly the tofu dish with a green sauce.
