While sitting in my old lady chair in the late evening, I heard a loud clatter. It sounded like it came from inside my house. Elsa didn’t move, so I wasn’t scared. I figured out it probably came from the shed attached to the side of the house. The guest bathroom window opens into the shed. I wasn’t convinced it was nothing. We have many homeless here. They will break in to look for tools. But, as I said, Elsa didn’t respond. If it was someone who came to steal, they could easily get into the house. I wasn’t unconcerned, but not enough to keep me up at night. This morning, I told Scott what had happened. He promptly went to check the shed. He found a jar lying on the floor. A rascally rat tried to get into the jar to get at the fertilizer and knocked it over.

On my early morning walk, I came across a flock of turkeys. From the way the group was moving, I knew a fight was going on. One of the turkeys broke loose from the group; the other four gave chase. I intervene. “Cut the crap!”  The four turned tail. I thought they were a group of hens. I had observed a fight like that once before. I wasn’t as successful in breaking that fight up. This group was all toms. As they walked away, they fanned their tails. Very impressive, boys!

When I spoke to Judy at the end of the day, she told me the four boys frequently attack the fifth. When I first moved here, there were only three toms. They must have integrated boy number four. Judy thinks the fifth turkey is a fledgling. He will also be integrated into the boys’ club at some point.

I called my dentist today to see if I could get a false cover made for my front lower teeth. It would be only for show. I believe I heard that Glenda Jackson wore them when performing. I need them because my few remaining natural teeth are discolored and crooked. Yuck! They look terrible on Zoom.

The only thing on my schedule for today was a luncheon date at my friend Mindy’s. She invited five of us. Two were Judy and her sister, Paulette. A third was a woman I have had contact with on other occasions, Zola. The fourth was a woman I knew from the school where I volunteered. My impression of her from the school wasn’t the best. I saw her as rigid. Whatever else, she was delightful company over lunch.

I was exhausted as I drove home. I thought I had A. at 4 pm. No, I had him at three. I got home shortly after three and contacted his dad immediately. His dad had forgotten about the session anyway. I asked if I could meet with A at 4:30. He said fine. Then I got a text from his mom to forget it for the day. Ah, that was good for me.

I was surprised by how knocked out I was. The release I felt being in normal company over lunch blew me away. Also, this was the first time in a year I was sitting with a group of people unmasked. The conversational flow was spontaneous and filled with laughter. I hadn’t experienced that in years- a group of women just talking story, all at the same level of life and laughter. It was great.
